Offers Advice on Home and Garden Improvements

When it comes to purchasing leather office furniture, there are various factors to take into consideration. The grade of the leather is one of the most important since it primarily determines how durable the furniture will be and how much it will cost. Top grain leather is a reference to leather office furniture which has been made from the outer surface of the hide – which is the basic raw material. The lower surfaces are called split grains and are not as durable. Though it comes at a higher cost, the top grains are what make the best furniture.

But not all top grains are the same since different methods of manufacturing leads to different grades. Aniline leather, which is very soft, is developed by soaking the leather in aniline dye – but other than that there are no other pigments or finishes used. Only the best hides qualify for this.

Then there is the semi-aniline leather which has a certain quantity of coating or pigment which protects against fading and staining.

Then there is pigmented leather which is the leather that is sourced from poor grade hides. Pigmented leather is completely treated with surface colour and has more stiffness than aniline leather. It offers more resistance to stains and scuffs. It is also friendly to the pocket.

The grading of leather depends on the processes that manufacturers take the leather through to make it ready for the end of the distribution chain. Hides that are perfect and without marks are hard to find and so they tend to be very expensive.
