Designing Bathrooms for Children
Designing rooms for children is certainly no easy task. While most adults are quite content to enjoy a room if it at least partially conforms to their tastes, children are another matter entirely. The look and feel of a room can make or break it in the eyes of a child, and can often spell the difference between a room that will be enjoyed for a long time to come and one that he or she will refuse to even enter.
Now take that realization, apply it to a child’s bathroom, and you can see how things become even more complicated. How do you design a bathroom for a child? Of course the personality of the child that will eventually use the bathroom is the first clue. If you are designing with a specific child in mind, it would help to find out about any hobbies or interests that they have, or at least talk to their parents about their preferences in terms of colour and accessories.
What if you are designing a bathroom without a specific client in mind? That becomes a little bit trickier, but a good safe option is to go for a look and feel that is more neutral in nature. The future occupants will then have the option to decorate and accessorize it later on according to their child’s preference. You can achieve a neutral feel with simpler and subtler colours and floor tiles that do not have an overly complicated pattern, and accessories that are more subdued in design and hue.
