Colour Considerations in Designing Your Bathroom

posted by crossteam

When planning a bathroom design, one of the most crucial decisions that you will have to make is what particular colour scheme to implement. This will have a considerable effect on how the occupants as well as the guests will perceive the bathroom as a whole. In fact in many ways, your perception of the bathroom will carry over into the rest of the house as well. It is important therefore to keep the overall look of the rest of the house in mind when choosing colours for your bathroom.

Before you even head down to the home depot and pick up a few cans of paint, you will want to decide what feel you are going for. Are you after a contemporary look – in which case monochromatic colours will work best – or do you want a more traditional and cosy feel. Regardless of your goal, planning the colour scheme to fit in line with your vision will go a long way in enhancing the desired effect.

Colour can also serve to alter the apparent size of a room. Light colours will make a small bathroom look bigger than it actually is, while darker or bolder colours can help pull in the various elements of a larger bathroom, making it more personal and intimate.

Finally, it would be best to choose one or two main colours as the basis of your bathroom design and then choose other complementary colours to accent or enhance the colour scheme that you want.

  1. Sid Said,

Magnolia always suites bathrooms and is very neutral colour wise, and always looks rather smart

  2. J Horrocks Said,

Hi Sid, I fully agree with you and think Magnolia is a good colour for a bathroom but i would try and have a feature wall that would be a different colour
