The Basics of Bed Linen Care

posted by crossteam

There is an absolute wealth of options available to you when purchasing bed linen. They come in literally hundreds of different fabrics, designs, textures, colours, and patterns, and all of these characteristics will require different methods of care and storage.

Thankfully, most bed linen manufacturers have made the task of finding out how to care for their products easy. Specific instructions are typically included in the tags or labels of the bed linen. These labels will include information such as whether you should use hot or cold water in washing them, the acceptable temperature range of the water, and whether you should hang them out to dry or tumble dry them. This will eliminate a lot of the guesswork involved in the care of your bed linen, and following the instructions closely will make the linen last much longer.

You may also want to clip off the cleaning instructions and store them somewhere handy. This will allow you to keep things organized and prevent any mishaps from occurring due to missing tags and labels. Make sure that whoever is tasked with cleaning these items knows exactly where to find the instructions for their care and that they follow them to the letter. Keep in mind that even if the bed linen comes from the same manufacturer and looks a lot like each other, they may use different materials and fabrics and will therefore require their own specific methods of care. Conforming to manufacturer’s instructions carefully will ensure that your bed linen will provide you with quality service for years and years to come.

Caring for Your Bed Sheets and Pillow Cases

posted by crossteam

Caring for your bed and mattress is one thing, but your bed sheets, blankets, and pillowcases deserve their own special treatment as well. Here are some tips on how you can prolong the life of your valuable bed linen.

Washing bed linen
• In general, most bed linen should be washed in cool or tepid water at a lower temperature than 104°F. Hot water is generally not necessary nor recommended, although you will want to check the label for exceptions to this rule.

• If you feel that your bed linen is fairly clean, you may want to set the wash cycle to “light” in order to make them last longer.

• Don’t use too much detergent. Most bed linen will do just fine with half of the amount of detergent recommended by the instructions on the detergent’s box. If you happen to use too much detergent, you may want to run the bed linen through another rinse cycle.

• Do not use bleach unless absolutely necessary as it will cause the fabrics to break down much faster.

Drying bed linen
• Keep the bed linen in the dryer only until it is just short of totally dry. This will lessen wrinkles in the fabric.

• Make sure that you remove the bed linen from the dryer as soon as possible and fold them quickly. Again, this will lessen the wrinkles.

• If wrinkles develop in spite of your best efforts, throw a slightly damp cloth into the dryer along with the bed linen and run it for an additional ten minutes.

Thoughts on bedroom décor

posted by crossteam

When we consider bedroom décor, naturally our thoughts turn to the decoration of the walls and ceiling. But perhaps more importantly the actual furnishings can completely take over a room and change its appearance. Curtains for instance can play an essential part in the overall look of the room itself.

We would suggest that you consider what kind of effect you are trying to achieve because this will play a major part in the choice of curtaining and other furnishing that you choose.  Some styles of bedroom décor are more subtle, simple design with plain colours, versatile enough to last year round. Silks and velvet, often with a textured design, can bring out an elegant touch to your bedroom and here you would be achieving the desired look.

From here you would have to look to the bedding coverings as these can have a major part in how the bedroom will eventually look when finished. We suggest that you should be sure to choose the very best bedspread for your personal taste, especially if you will be using a long lasting duvet cover all year round.
