Accessories Can Add Style to Your Bathroom

posted by crossteam

If you find that your bathroom is dull, an easy way to breathe new life into it is by adding stylish bathroom accessories.  Although it is easy to spend a fortune on these bathroom accessories, many can be obtained at very reasonable prices.  This makes it a great option for just about anyone who is looking to add a bit of style to their bathroom.

There are a number of things that can fall within the realm of bathroom accessories.  Everything from a heated mirror to a soap dish can be considered an accessory so you can be sure that you will have plenty of options to choose from.

Wall-mounted bathroom accessories are some of the most popular available today.  This can include things like toilet roll holders, towel rails, expanding mirrors, and shelving.  You can find these in contemporary designs that are have stylish finishes like polished chrome and brushed nickel.  Other types of wall-mounted accessories include soap, cup, and toothbrush holders.  These are great options if your counter space is limited.

If you really want to add a bit of style to your bathroom, consider placing a waterproof television in your shower.  Although this is certainly not a cheap accessory, it will add a whole new level of appeal to your bathroom.

The nice thing about the majority of bathroom accessories is that they are typically sold as part of a collection.  Once you find a collection that suits your style, pick the pieces that you want.  This eliminates the need to match individual accessories.

Mirrors for your home

posted by crossteam

Mirrors are an essential piece of furniture in every household. Bathroom mirrors are probably the most common.

When selecting what mirror to purchase, be it as a bedroom mirror or bathroom mirror, one of the important points to consider is where the mirror will be located. This will of course be determined mostly by what the mirror will be used for.

If the mirror is going to be located in the bathroom then the viewing space and convenience are crucial points to consider. On the other hand if the mirror is merely going to be used for decorating walls then smaller mirrors would do. There are also those mirrors that are usually attached to another piece of furniture (fixture mirrors). Some models of Schneider cabinets, for instance, come equipped with their own mirrors.

When buying a mirror it is important to think about the shape. Purely from an aesthetic point of view, it is crucial to have a mirror shape that is in harmony with the style of the room. There are various mirror shapes available and these range from square to oval to arched to geometric to sunburst to circular.

The other thing to think about is the style of the mirror. The styles range from contemporary to modern to traditional to country to exotic to ornate. The traditional style of mirror is symmetrical and is likely to have a dark or richly grained wood as a frame. The contemporary mirror style tends to be sandwiched between traditional and casual style and is characterised by straight clean lines and edges.

Tips on small bathroom design

posted by crossteam

The fixtures you use for your bathroom design can determine how small or big the room will look. Sophisticated designs tend to take up a lot of space, so you should go for something simpler, preferably in a light colour.

The more light there is in the bathroom, the roomier it will appear. With that in mind, installing extra lighting can make a small bathroom look a whole lot larger. Adding light fixtures or making use of higher wattage bulbs can achieve this quite simply and cheaply. Adding natural light will achieve a similar result and this can be done by putting in a new window or skylight. This will, of course, involve some reconstruction work, but depending on the location of the room, it may not be too expensive.

The installation of bathroom mirrors will also add to the apparent size of the room, as they reflect artificial and natural light. Having several mirrors in a small bathroom can also add depth, since their reflective qualities make the walls look as though they are further away than they really are.

Another obvious way in which you can make extra space in your small bathroom is by cutting down on the number of items that are in there. Bathroom furniture, like storage shelves, can take a lot of space and should be removed, if possible. A good alternative home for the items that the shelves contained might be a small storage cabinet located in the hallway outside the bathroom. There are also items that can be relocated to the bedroom.

Making Your Bathroom People Friendly

posted by crossteam

One of the recent trends in bathroom design is making it as enticing and people friendly as possible. This actually makes perfect sense as people often spend hours in the bathroom during the course of the day. There is certainly no reason then not to make it as comfortable as the other rooms in the house!

A typical family bathroom is used by most, if not all, the members of the family, so the clutter can build up quite quickly as you can imagine. All of the children’s toys, the medicines, the personal effects…they all need enough storage space so that they don’t get in the way or pose a hazard to the bathroom’s users. You can keep medicines in a bathroom cabinet that you can then lock so that they are safe from children. The other toiletries can then be stored in a separate bathroom cabinet.

One important concern in any bathroom is adequate ventilation. If you have enough space to install windows, you would have enough ventilation for most needs. If space or privacy issues prevent the installation of a bathroom window, you may have to go with an extractor fan.

If you have old or disabled people at home, it is a must to make the bathroom as safe and as comfortable for them as possible. You can do this by installing grab rails and slip proof mats or flooring. Also make sure that they are able to access the bathroom features such as the toilet, bath, sink, towel rails, and mirrors easily and safely.

Making your bathroom seem bigger

posted by crossteam

If you have been cursed with a small bathroom, we can suggest many options that can add space, or at worst just make it look bigger. Whilst some of our suggestions are inexpensive, others should only be undertaken if you are considering if you are planning to do some major renovation work, in which case it would be wise for us to look at the room before giving you our thoughts.

Assuming that you are not intending to replace all of the sanitary ware adding light to a small room can have a dramatic effect. Placing light fixtures near mirrors is another good way to add light to the room because the light will be reflected. Also mirrors can create the illusion of more space and putting a mirror opposite a window can give the appearance of another window. Putting one mirror opposite another one is an old trick that can and does work particularly if you arrange lighting to strike this.

Bathroom decorating tips

posted by crossteam

The bathroom is the place where we can relax after a hard day at work or a tiring day keeping the kids out of mischief. Your bathroom may be a ‘spa’ with piles of fluffy white towels scented candles and generous warmth from your heated towel radiator. Are you feeling comfortable already? To create this you have to pay attention to the paint colour, mirrors and lighting.

Do not be afraid to have your bathroom walls painted white, you can compensate by having the ‘fifth’ wall, more commonly known as the ceiling in a nice contrasting colour, maybe sky blue, pleasant when you look up at it from your bath. By having white sanitary ware in your bathroom you will not be inhibited in your colour choice for flooring and soft furnishings.

Bathroom mirrors can change the look of the room and a framed mirror and gives your bathroom a finished, and a more updated look. You can become really creative and hang a mirror in an art frame hung like a picture which can completely transform the look of the room, the difference can be amazing.
