Buying Your Child’s First Bed

posted by crossteam

Before you head down to the furniture store and pick out a bed for your child, you will first have to determine if he or she is ready for it. Making the move from a crib to a real children’s bed can be a difficult transition for many children and it is important that you do not rush things.

After you have determined that your child is indeed ready for this important step, make sure that you anticipate your child’s growth in the future. While you may be tempted to buy a bed that is made for a toddler, keep in mind that you will have to change this to a bigger bed sooner or later, thereby doubling your cost. Bunk beds are a good choice if you have more than one child sharing a room, but they are probably not a good idea for toddlers due to safety issues.

In terms of bed sizes, there are literally dozens of options available to you. Children’s beds can be anything from toddler-size beds that will work with mattresses designed for cribs, to full-sized spring beds similar to the ones that adults would use. You can also choose from a wide variety of children’s beds that are designed in the shape of a race car, or space ship, or other similar fun designs.

When making your mattress purchase, be sure not to skimp on quality. Children need adequate support for their growing bones and a good quality mattress will help ensure that.

We bought a son a single bed when he moved out of a cot. it seemed really big and strange to him, but he soon grew to like all the extra space he got and hopefully the bed will see him into his teens
