Garden gazebos are great for recreation

posted by crossteam

The garden gazebo has become a popular accessory for the garden over the past few years and is an ideal place to relax and unwind after a hard day or rest in during the weekend.

Garden gazebos come in a range of different sizes and styles that can enhance the look of your garden and create a special architectural touch. A lot of materials like cedar, pine and redwood are used in the construction of a gazebo as they can withstand many years of weathering and look great in any landscape.

The roof of a gazebo can also be wooden, but the most popular style of roof is a thatched gazebo where the thatch is directly placed onto a steel roofing frame. A thatched roof is completely waterproof and can last for many years, sometimes up to 20 years before needing replaced.

A garden gazebo has many uses, it provides shelter all year round, but can also be used to entertain guests, host dinner parties and provide an outdoor playing area for children. Purchasing a gazebo for your garden will create a focal point and provide you with many years of comfort.

Choosing the right type of underfloor heating

posted by crossteam

Underfloor heating is the best option if you are looking to lower your energy bills.  There are many types of under floor heating products available, so you may want to have a look at the different options to see which products are the most suitable for you.

One popular option is a cable mat.  Cable mats are suitable for use in most rooms in your home, but are especially easy to install in rectangular or square rooms.  These mats usually come with a thermostat and built in timer.  This will allow you to save energy by controlling how long you use your heating.  There are cable mats that are designed for particular types of floors, such as laminate wood floors, so be sure to choose a mat that is suitable for your home.  Failure to obtain the correct cable mat may cause problems with the installation.

Another option is a cable kit.  Cable kits may be a more favourable option if you need underfloor heating products that will fit rooms of any shape or size.  These, like the cable mat, usually come with a thermostat and can easily be taped down to facilitate tiling.  Some cable kits offer adhesive tape for this specific purpose.  Investing in a cable monitor may also be a good idea if you decide to opt for this type of underfloor heating.  Cable monitors are extremely useful as they indicate whether or not a cable is damaged.  They can be installed at the same time as the cable kit.

Moderate use chairs are meant for people who spend half their working time at their desk and the other half moving around the building. The recommended moderate use chairs are the ones with a knee-tilt mechanism which allows users to lean back while their feet are rested on the floor. In chairs without knee-tilt mechanisms, the feet get lifted when the user leans back and this causes discomfort. Moderate use chairs possess more style than the commonplace task chair.

Just like the moderate use chairs, executive office chairs possess features such as the knee-tilt mechanism with the differences being that executive office chairs are bigger, have more comfort and possess more style due to the seniority of the user’s rank in the organisation. These kinds of chairs are designed with the busy executive in mind who usually shuttles between conference rooms and expends a good portion of his working time speaking on the telephone and typing on the computer keyboard. They are designed to offer comfort, style, and are status symbols as well. Most executive office chairs are high-back chairs.

In general when buying office chairs there are several conditions the office chair should meet for the user. It should be possible for the user to rest their feet comfortably on the ground and their thighs should receive full support. The user’s back should receive adequate and comfortable support so that the angle between their torso and their upper legs varies between a right angle and one hundred and five degrees. While it should be possible for the user to lean back, it should not be extremely easy. It is also important that the desk chair allows recurrent changes in posture.

A Conservatory for All Seasons

posted by crossteam

A conservatory gives you the sense of being connected to nature. In it, you can be close to nature while being protected from different weather conditions such as wind and rain. Yet, since conservatories are prone to high heat loss, the chill of winter will surely affect this usually pleasant pastime. An easy solution to this is installing a good conservatory floor heating system.

A good conservatory floor heating system is what is needed so conservatories can be used all year round. The most ideal form of heating system for this kind of structure is Electric Underfloor Heating. This kind of heating system produces radiant heat that keeps heat-loss low and allows temperature customisation in specific areas in the conservatory.

The Conservatory Floor Heating Cable Kit is most ideal for those with ceramic floor-tiles, while the Conservatory Floor Heating Mat Kit is the heating system for conservatories that need high heat output, such as Sunrooms. Installation of the Mat Kit is painless since it can be laid even on areas with irregular shapes.

These heating systems emit high heat especially meant for conservatory needs. Their power output reaches 150 – 180 Watts per square metre. They are only suitable for floors made of stone, tiles, marble, or similar floor materials. It’s imperative that these heating systems are laid on top of a concrete slab, or better yet, on Marmox Insulation. This is a kind of insulation board ideal to use with electric underfloor heating that is laid beneath tiles. This reinforced, high-performance insulation board should be laid prior to the floor heating for timber-floored conservatories.

Conservatories give us the sense of relaxation only nature can give. But this privilege can be taken from us by the winter chill. Having the perfect conservatory floor heating beats this hindrance.

Security gate choices

posted by crossteam

There has never been more choice of security gates and with the rising crime rate and petty vandalism many would say never a better time to fit them. At times when your property may be unattended an intruder is much less likely to attempt to have a go, if there are clearly visible safeguards, such as security gates. In Harrogate where there are a lot of expensive properties, fitting of security gates is something that the responsible home owner has been doing for many years now. In this Spa Town the choice of styles of Security Gates is important and the gate simply has to fit into the natural surroundings and general neighbourhood.

Security gates choices will always depend upon the type of property in which you live or the particular circumstances where your business is located. Wrought Iron Security Gates or steel shuttered models are without doubt the most secure. Intruders do not like wrought iron styles as they are easily visible going about their unlawful business. Fitting wrought Iron Security gates in the ancient city of York is in keeping with its Georgian architectural style of property.  Sliding Security Gates are useful where the drive slopes up towards the house which would prevent a swing gate from opening, or where a swing gate reduces the parking space available.

The Security Gate can be operated in a number of different ways. These can be through standard key, through electric cables, or wireless digital keypad and for additional security intercom and video can be specified. Detectors can also be fitted to sense the presence a vehicle and to stop them closing on it.  Whichever city or Town you live or work in, security gates apart from preventing intruders’ access to your property and deterring car theft and vandalism, they can keep your children and pets safe within your grounds and can give you complete control of access.

Considerations when designing a small bathroom

posted by crossteam

If you have a small bathroom and you want it to look bigger one of the best solutions is to engage in a little bathroom remodelling. However, this is not always possible, because it tends to be very expensive. A cheaper way lies in bathroom design, which does not call for extensive reconstruction work.

In many cases, colour plays a huge role in determining how big a bathroom, or any other room for that matter, looks. To make a bathroom that is small appear bigger, it is best to use mainly light soft colours that can be accented with some bright and bold shades. The use of bold and dark colours should be very limited though, since they can have a tendency to make rooms look even smaller.

In situations where the bathroom is wallpapered, big prints or patterns that are too busy should be avoided like the plague. The recommended wallpapers are those with subtle patterns and you should consider leaving at least one part of the wall plain.

Light colours on the walls will make a small bathroom look roomier and the same principle also applies to the floor covering. The best colours for a small bathroom floor are light blues, tans and light greys.

By replacing some of the bathroom fixtures with smaller versions, you can also make a small bathroom appear larger. For example, a smaller, pedestal sink might replace a wide countertop or vanity. Pedestal sinks are usually available in a wide variety of colours and styles and it is therefore possible to match them with the rest of the bathroom decor. On average, a pedestal sink increases the space in the bathroom by up to 10%.

Wood care products

posted by crossteam

With barstools, dining tables, sideboards, some pieces of the kitchen furniture, living room furniture and office furniture being made of wood, it is important to use the right care products in order to enhance durability. Due to stringent environmental laws that have been introduced over the past decade or so, it is now slightly trickier to take care of wood furniture that it used to be. This is because these regulations have outlawed the use of the chemicals and shellacs that used to be so popular.

The products that have been introduced as alternatives have different reactions to polish and wax and you must be extremely cautious about making use of cleaners that were not manufactured for use on wood. With the older products, like shellac, it was impossible to damage the wood, but now it is very easy to damage the surfaces, especially when you use cleaners that are not specifically designed for such use.

For daily dusting of wooden furniture, general dusting products are recommended. Polishes and waxes should not be used too frequently since they tend to build up and will eventually make the finish look dull. Monthly polishing is what is recommended to ensure that the piece of wood furniture continues looking good.

Different polishes and waxes have varying degrees of sheen and the best way to find out what effect they will have on the surface is to apply a little to the underside or a concealed part of the furniture before applying it to the top. This will ensure you do not make mistakes, in case the sheens do not match.

Different Uses for Underfloor Heating

posted by crossteam

It does not matter what type of house you live in or the area that you want to heat, there are plenty of underfloor heating systems that can accommodate just about any situation.  Some systems require that they are used with new construction while others are great for home renovation projects as well.  You can install underfloor heating systems beneath carpet, tile, laminate and wood floors as well.

Heating a bathroom or ensuite is a great application for underfloor heating.  Instead of having a bulky or unsightly radiator taking up space in your bathroom, install some underfloor heating instead.  This will help to keep the air in the room warm while also providing you with a warm floor to stand on.

Another great place to install an underfloor heating system is in the entrance ways of your home.  Much like a bathroom or ensuite, an entrance way is prone to dampness.  Wet shoes and umbrellas can be left behind in an entrance way while moisture from a shower can accumulate on the floors of a bathroom.  In both situations you have a floor that is slippery and might encourage the growth of mould.  Underfloor heating systems solve this problem by keeping your floors dry.

Many people choose to install underfloor heating systems in their living rooms as well.  Radiators are commonly found in living rooms which people try to cover up and hide.  This frequently forces the radiator to work harder in order to heat the room which wastes electricity.  Underfloor heating can eradicate the issue by eliminating the need for a radiator.

Determining Which Type of Shower to Install

posted by crossteam

From steam showers to bath shower combinations, there are plenty of different options today that will add the convenience of a shower to your bathroom.  As you look around at the various options you will notice that the price tags on these showers can get very expensive.  In some cases it makes sense to spend the extra money for a fancier shower but it is not always necessary.

One of the more convenient options available is the bath shower combination.  This is a particularly good option if you have young children that require the use of a bath while still providing you with a shower as well.  Installing a bath shower combination does require that you have a bit of extra space in your bathroom.

If you simply want to add a shower to your bathroom, an enclosure with a shower tray is also sufficient.  This option is great for small spaces and is frequently less expensive than a bath shower combination.  For many, the versatility of a shower enclosure makes this a very popular option.

A notable feature that can be a downfall to the shower enclosure is that they do not have back walls.  This means you will need to prepare your wall with something like tile before installing the shower enclosure.  A way around this is to buy a shower cabin.  This provides you with everything you need including the shower itself and back walls.  The price tag is obviously higher but if you are not sure how to prepare your bathroom walls for a shower enclosure, this is a great option.
