Why Go for a Leather Bed?

posted by crossteam

If you are looking for a comfortable bed that is also stylish, you may want to consider purchasing a leather bed. Classy and elegant, leather beds work well with almost any type of bedroom design, particularly those that are more contemporary in feel. A good-quality leather bed will add a sense of sophistication to your room and, if you take the time to choose carefully, will not quickly become dated.

Leather beds can be a bit costlier than other types of beds. However, the initial investment will pay for itself many times over when you consider that leather beds last a lot longer than ordinary beds. They are quite durable and hardy. Plus, the fact they will remain in fashion for a long time to come will help offset the cost. Leather beds are also an excellent value for the money because they are fire-, heat-, and sun-resistant.

As pricey as many leather beds are, there are many affordable options if you take the time to shop around and compare carefully. With the great strides made in the manufacture and construction of leather beds, they are becoming more and more affordable. You will likely find good models that will work well and fit within your budget.

Many leather beds are designed with the limited space of many of today’s modern bedrooms in mind. These include leather storage beds that are made with storage places into which you can place the various odds and ends in your room.

A Basic Guide to Choosing a Mattress

posted by crossteam

When purchasing a mattress, you will naturally want one that has been made to last a long time. A well-built and durable mattress can last several years, depending on how well you take care of it. You will want a mattress that can hold up to the rigors of use night after night. A mattress purchase should be seen as a long-term investment, so it is important to buy a mattress of the best quality that you can afford.

With today’s bedrooms so often limited by space constraints, a divan bed with a combination bedstead is an increasingly popular and practical choice. If you intend to purchase your mattress and divan individually, make sure the mattress works well with the divan so that you have the comfort and satisfaction you want. Spend time trying out several different mattress and divan combinations before you settle on one particular set. This may take time and effort now, but the correct mattress and divan combination will pay for itself many times over in the future.

If you own a bedstead that you are happy with, then your work is cut out for you since you only need to purchase a mattress. However, you may want to consider changing your divan to work well with your new mattress. This will enable you to reach the right balance in terms of how well the springs in the divan interact with the mattress you plan to buy.

Choosing Lights for Your Bathroom

posted by crossteam

If you are looking for a fast and easy way to enhance the design of your bathroom or even to introduce a whole new look, one of the key elements that you should look at is the lighting. Bathroom lighting can be almost considered a separate discipline unto itself, as important as it is in shaping the overall look and feel of your bathroom. With all the many options available in bathroom lights and lighting fixtures, as well as innovative new lighting solutions, there is no longer any need to be restricted to bathroom lights that serve a purely functional purpose and not much else. Today’s bathroom lighting solutions offer you numerous chances to impart a truly unique, soothing, or calming atmosphere to your bathroom.

One of the most effective ways to reduce the harsh glare that is characteristic of so many bathrooms is by installing two or more light sources strategically located. This will serve to diffuse the light, and help add a warmer and more inviting glow.

You may also want to use lampshades on bathroom lights, particularly those that are situated in the vicinity of the sink or the vanity. This will help soften the light and make for a more flattering source of illumination. Of course you will want to install an additional brighter light for those times when you need as much illumination as you can get. Regardless of what type of bathroom lighting solution you go for, strive for visual appeal that does not sacrifice functionality.

Planning the Design of Your Bathroom

posted by crossteam

Before you even start to lay the groundwork for your bathroom, it is important to visualize how it will fit in relation to the other rooms in the house. Most people prefer that the bathroom be easily accessible from the master bedroom, therefore you should plan with this thought in mind. In addition, you will also want the bathroom to be located in such a way that people can get to the dressing room – if there is one – easily. You may want to look at samples of existing bedroom and bathroom designs to give you an idea of how other designers plan out these rooms, and to give you a starting point for your own creation.

One thing that you will also want to consider is privacy. If the bathroom is not inside the bedroom itself, you should ensure that people have enough privacy to get to the dressing room from the bathroom. This is commonly done by building the bathroom adjacent to the dressing room, which then connects to the bedroom, placing the bathroom farthest from the door into the bedroom. This ensures the bathroom users maximum privacy.

Since most people typically leave the door into the dressing room open, you will want to design the elements in this “hallway” to be as attractive and inviting as possible. There is a unique design opportunity to be had here, with elements that can really serve to tie the look of both rooms together. Feel free then to let your imagination take control, but keep the overall theme in mind.

Caring for Your Leather Bed

posted by crossteam

If you have just purchased a new leather bed, you are fully justified in being proud of your purchase. After all, it is an investment that has probably cost you a pretty penny, so you will naturally want to protect it and ensure that it lasts as long as possible.

The most important thing that you can do to preserve the integrity of your leather bed is to keep it away from any direct heat source such as radiators or fireplaces. You may also want to make sure that it is placed in an area where direct sunlight does not fall upon it. Doing this will lessen the chances of wear and fading.

A leather bed is pretty hardy and durable, although you will still have to clean it from time to time. In most cases, going over the surface with a soft cloth should suffice. If your leather bed has stubborn stains, or smears from food or drinks, you may have to use a slightly dampened piece of cloth and a very mild soap. Stains that are more difficult to remove may require the use of a good leather- cleaning product.

In order to prolong the life of your leather bed, you may want to apply leather conditioner to the bed before using for the first time, with follow-up applications every four months. Complete your leather bed maintenance with a good leather cleaning product, being careful to follow the product manufacturer’s directions.

Visually Appealing Bathroom Design

posted by crossteam

With the limited space available in most bathrooms nowadays, it can be quite a formidable challenge to design it in a way that effectively combines functionality and aesthetic appeal. This is probably why so many bathrooms are designed purely with function in mind, leaving comfort, taste, and even privacy entirely out of the picture. It does not have to be that way however and there are many things you can do to enhance the look of your bathroom without detracting from its function and safety.

A good part of the visual appeal of any bathroom is the space available. Ideally, bathrooms should have enough space to allow you to move around freely, without the cavernous feel that so many large bathrooms have. Even with smaller bathrooms however, it is possible to achieve this feel with a combination of lighting, colours, and appropriate bathroom fixtures.

Soft or light colours can work wonders for making a room appear larger than it really is. You can have a light colour on the walls for example, and choose or design the rest of your bathroom accessories and fixtures with complementary colours.

If you are more inclined to use bold colours, you can still implement them in a smaller bathroom design, but it may be a good idea to use them sparingly as accents. If your colour scheme uses bold colours primarily, it may actually give the impression of a smaller, more confined space.

If you opt to use wallpaper in your bathroom, try to stay away from overly complicated patterns or large prints. Subtle tones and patterns will work better, and you can even use wallpaper on only some of the walls.

Mattress Options for Your Bed

posted by crossteam

In the past, purchasing a mattress was a simple affair requiring nothing more than a few test bounces before settling on your choice. For better or worse, those days are gone. Today, a trip to your local mattress emporium is likely to leave you scratching your head in bewilderment. While choosing a mattress can be quite confusing, take comfort in the fact that all this confusion means there are many more options available to you. Here is a quick guide to the different types of mattresses and the main characteristics of each.

Open spring mattresses are the most common mattress type. Most of the mattresses you will see in the stores feature this design. This mattress uses a wire frame that provides a defined edge to the bed and keeps it in shape.

Pocket spring mattresses are quite a bit more expensive. Its springs are installed as contained, individual pockets. This design allows the springs to react differently according to the weight placed on them. This is a great choice for partners that are of different weights or sizes.

Latex mattresses use an advanced polymer material that provides ultimate comfort and durability. One advantage to this mattress type is that the surface is hypoallergenic and resists microbial growth. It also shapes itself to fit your body and has a porous surface that keeps you from getting too hot.

A visco-elastic mattress softens upon contact with body heat, making it fit extremely well with your body contour. This allows a high degree of comfort and helps you to keep your spine positioned correctly.

Design Tips for Your Master Bathroom

posted by crossteam

The master bedroom is by its very nature one of the most important rooms in the entire house. A lot of planning and forethought typically goes into this particular room, and since many well thought out master bedrooms have a bathroom built right into it, it stands to reason that a good deal of planning has to go into designing the master bathroom as well.

But you do not have to design your master bathroom from scratch. In fact, it might help tie in the two rooms together if you plan your bathroom design to conform to the existing look of the bedroom. Whether your master bedroom follows a traditional design or if it is more contemporary in feel, the bathroom should reflect this theme as well. It wouldn’t do at all to have a cosy and intimate bedroom that leads into an ultra modern almost minimalist bathroom! The effect would simply be too jarring. Of course in this day and age of the anything-goes design aesthetic, you are free to do as you please. Just keep in mind that your decision is borne out of intent rather than a case of simply not knowing what to do.

Stand outside the bathroom and look at what you see through the door into the bathroom. Do you see an inviting foyer that is attractive to look at or do you see a pile of clothes on the floor and an unflattering toilet? Always strive for a total overall look whether you are in the bathroom or the bedroom. It might be best to situate less appealing visual elements further into the bathroom where they cannot be seen from the outside.

Bathroom Design Tips

posted by crossteam

When planning the design of your bathroom, some of the most important considerations are space, storage and of course, the look. Even if you have limited space in your bathroom, you can create the illusion of a bigger space by using bathroom mirrors or shelves made out of glass. You can also make the most of the space that you have by using fitted bathroom fixtures and furniture.

Storage is the one thing that you cannot seem to have enough of and no matter how much you have, the clutter inevitably builds up again. With all the cleaning materials, personal effects and toiletries taking up space in a typical bathroom, bathroom furniture that can contain all of these neatly and safely is an important concern. For medicines that you want to keep away from children, it is a must to have a cabinet with a lock.

In terms of decorations and accessories, you will have to anticipate any changes that you make to your bathroom in the future. If you foresee changing the colour scheme fairly frequently, you may want to stick to bathroom accessories of a neutral colour that will blend in well with a wide range of colours.

Keeping the overall look of the bathroom in mind when purchasing bathroom accessories and fixtures is another important consideration, although you should also plan for how they will fit into the available space. You may find that bathroom accessories that fit into the walls may help you get just a little more out of a limited space.
